Jane Roe was a single woman from Texas who challenged the constitutionality
of abortion laws in Texas after she was denied her right to get an abortion in
1973. The law in Texas stated that abortion was only legal when it was done if
the mother’s life was in danger. Plaintiffs to Roe included Hallford, a doctor who
was on trial for violating the abortion law. Wade was the District Attorney. Roe
and Hallford won their case in the Supreme Court against Wade after the court
ruled the Texas abortion laws were void because they were vague and violated
both the 9th and 14th Amendments.
